I also have a 2005 RSX type S. It has been very picky about shifting into 3rd gear since I bought it in 2005. (Yes, you have to know that trick, of making sure the clutch is fully engaged does work, but a transmission should not work like this. This is BS!) I've taken it to Acura over 10 times for the transmission. I bought the car new. It now has 90k on it and has a new clutch. It still is very crunchy when shifting to third gear. I've had other cars that have had syncro issues and the dealers were able to fix them under warranty. (2004 325I BMW, and 91 3000GT VR4) Acura doesn't seem to work with anyone on this issue and they know it's an issue. I talked to a Honda mechanic and he said it has been an issue in there training classes since the RSX inception.

I do enjoy the car itself and am going to have the syncros replaced, but I will never buy an Acura again due to their service.

I have a 02 RSX base. Shifting into second is hard and will make a loud click, especially if you're trying to run the car a little, it started having problems at about 65k miles, and now at 107k the clutch is out, only at one instance did it actually pop outta gear and got stuck somewhere in the middle cuz it went to straight grinding.

I thought maybe I did something wrong spinning the tires, but I shifted fine, it went into second still spinning, then when it hit about 5k clicked out and grinded, but I have had problems with the car grinding with my foot all the way on clutch.

I think some of the problems can be fixed by driving technique, but let's face it, no one here bought am RSX to drive it like grandma does, and if the transmission can't handle a little 2.0L, then I think they need do something.

Hey, I just got a used RSX Type S 02. It shifts good, but what should I do to prevent all those problems that everyone is having?

I have the 2002 RSX Type S and my 3 gear synchros is out, but my other gears work fine. Is this a problem with all 2002 RSX Type S, and if so how much to replace the 1 2 3 synchros?

I have an 05 RSX Type S I bought used 1 year ago. I noticed a few months after I had it that 3rd gear would pop out. I figured maybe it was just me. Now just last week when I shift from 2nd to 3rd, it's like it gets stuck coming out of 2nd, and I have to pull it back in 2nd before it will come out clean. Then wiggle it around in neutral to loosen it up before I can put it in 3rd, and it's only getting worse.

I'm going to try a different transmission fluid from Acura I heard about that is suppose to help the issue, but after reading everyone's comments sounds like I'm screwed on this. What a bunch of BS!

I have a 2002 RSX Type-S with 140,000KM and have had the car for about a year now. I only have the grinding problem with 2 gear when I'm racing and not shifting properly into second (like letting go of the clutch too soon). I had that same problem with a Mazda MX-3GS that I owned. I have had no problem with 3rd gear popping out.

I noticed in the service invoices of the car that the transmission fluid was changed out to a synthetic fluid and I think that has made all the difference. I don't know if the service was done to the transmission as in Service bulletin 8-018 as stated above.

I love the car and hope that I never have the problems that everyone is talking about. Keep you posted.
