I loss money selling and grief, but no hair. I should have sold my Acura at 25,000 miles prior to the Car Fax reports from the dealer. I do not consider that high mileage...

I have had no trouble with my Acura Transmission yet. It is a 2002 TL Type S. I find if you drive it gentle for the first few Miles, allowing the Transmission to gently warm up, you will have a Vehicle that does not have transmission problems. I am the original owner and my Mileage is now at 148k.

No no no... you just got lucky. these cars are amazing in every single aspect except for the transmissions...

You got EXTREMELY lucky, and got a perfect car.

Why didn't the dealer tell me how perfect it was?

The Carfax annihilated me... every incident done shows up. If it is so perfect why did I pay more money and upgrade to GM? I touted my Acuras and Hondas everywhere til the last ones. Once Shame on you... twice shame on me. I had brake issues the rears wore out fast, new water pump, premature tire wear, rattling in the dash that I was in the dealership as well.

I beg to differ, my Father in law has the 2003TL Type S; again he has been the only owner. His car is now at 98k Miles and he and I fully agree that if you are gentle on the car by driving slowly the first 5 miles or so, then you will avoid problems with the transmission. Perhaps your vehicle suffered abuse by a prior Owner. Has the maintenance schedule been followed to the letter? We have all our serivcing needs performed by our local Acura dealership.

I paid about $5000 more than my TL new. Not a big difference and true 2007 models cost a bit more mainly if you are not satisfied with lackluster performance.

Honda is pretty easy going when it comes to pricing. They do not have option packages like other car companies do so models such as you 03 TL come out as even prices such as 28k or 32K depending on the model. Now what you don't realize is once you install the dealer installed accessories the price of the car sores which with your GM car came from the factory like it. Even though it may be limped from the transmission woes it is not a slow car and I itch my head when you say lack luster performance. I too join the other people here who have had no trouble with their transmission. I don't tail gate in traffic, in a affect having to slam on the brakes all the time and I do not do abrupt stops like I c many doing.

21:25 I have learned to do rolling starts at 30 mph plus and have driven many imported cars included an NSX, Porche Turbos. I agree grade school kids drive and do kamikaze starts. slam on brakes etc etc. I never did any of this with my TL type S, but lost 2 transmissions. I would suspect most individuals owning this models are mature owners.

Although an initial impression regarding a defective and recurring problem with an automobile usually targets the driver, it does not appear to be situation with the Acura transmission. A defined recall by the manufacturer and recognized design flaw is very specific. It is noble that Acura recognized the problem and informed owners of the vehicle. How Acura resolves the defect is the most important issue. It appears defective components are being replaced with defective components, in this instance, the transmission.

I have an Acura TL 2001. And my mileage is 100K last month. Now my transmission is slipping. It is in the shop right now and I am looking at a very expensive fix. I wonder if it qualifies for the class action settlement. according to hondatransmissionsettlement.com, my VIN DOES qualify. I wonder if I can take it to any repair shop or if it has to be to the dealership.

"I can no longer take this site seriously because I know it is ruled by a bunch of GM and Ford salesman...Sorry...but you talk like every time a Acura, Toyota, or Honda breaks that someone switches to GM or Ford. Well their sales do not reflect this and I suspect these are all lies... "

Sorry pal, but you seem to be one of those Import guys who is blinded and only thinks imports are the best. Imports are good, but you don't seem to respect or consider the opinions and thoughts of others who like the domestic market.

Re Acura TL type S year 2002 - My son bought his new and the 1st transmission died suddenly at 67 thousand highway miles in Dec. 2003. The transmission was replaced under extended warranty he had purchased for $800+. I purchased the car from him last year because he tried unsuccessfully for 6 months to sell it after he ordered a Toyota Rav 4.

Now my transmission went out - suddenly 2 weeks ago. ALthough this one had 120,000 highway miles, I say it is still the same issue in 2nd gear. I contacted Honda - the rep said that the transmissions are "updated" every year. We are paying over $3500 for this 3rd transmission because the car is worth too much to dump it. Honda told me that any relief I could get would have to come from the dealer. So far, no luck - seems the service manager is never available and does not return his calls.

My son owned a Honda Accord before the Acura - drove it for over 100,000 miles with no problems. I have owned Nissans since 1978 - never a transmission or any major motor problem. If Honda can't fix this - their reputation is ruined.

I read all of your guy's comments and would have to say that I have never had any problems with my 2002 TL Type-S. I'm a 19 year old kid that drives my car pretty rough. The car also has 115,000 miles on it. So I either got really really lucky, or you guys just got screwed...

17:59 I owned a brand new Acura TL Type S would have never even blinked an eye at domestics. This was the turning point vehicle. GM, Ford did not buy my new domestics and neither did Honda with this. Honda should have bought this back though. The tran(s) sucked meaning plural not just one.........no other way to describe it. Theres no excuse.....none.
