We liked ACURA for its great service. We've owned a manual Integra for 8 years before we bought an acura TSX (manual 6 speeds) 2 years ago. We never had a problem with the Integra, so we decided to stick with Acura. The TSX we bought was brand new except for the 20,000km on it because it was a demo. We only drive it from the office to the house and vice-versa, which is about 20kms a day (it's a secondary car). The Acura dealer is the only one to take care of it. Now the transmission broke about 6 weeks ago (if not more) and our car is still at the dealership. We have an extended warranty on this vehicle, but they refuse to cover the expenses arguing that bad driving was the cause. I know for sure that it's not the case since only 2 people drive that car with 20 years experience with manual cars. The audacity and the way we were treated (like we were morons) was something I will never forget nor forgive. We were on our way to become regular customers for Acura, but we'll never buy an Acura ever again. The way customers are being handled is a disgrace and Acura is digging its own grave. They have a fierce competition out there. Don't they know that?

Hello fellow Acura owners-My husband bought the 2002 TL type s, and yes we have replaces the transmition 4x's. Now here is the new dilemma, My husband was driving his car to lunch on a rainy day, and both tires on the left side hit pot holes full of water so he could not see them. We took our car to the Acura dealership, where we always take it and they gave us an estimate. Now we all know that an estimate is not solid. It could go higher or lower then the price quoted. Right? OK, but not $1,900.00 more than what they said. Why…. The service Man said there were other things wrong with it that needed to be fixed that were not listed. So the Mechanic really did not look at this car, did he???

Never buy a demo, its the worst thing you can do. I bought a Mercedes demo and had nothing but problems with it. I had replaced my TL with the Mercedes thinking I was getting a more reliable car. At least Acura paid for the transmissions that went into the car. The TL engine is great. I had 225,000 miles on mine, but had gone through 5 transmissions. I have now bought a Lexus ES330 and love the car. I've put 15,000 miles on it and have had no problems. The service at Lexus is outstanding. I think I've found a make of cars I can stick with.

I have a 2003 Acura TL type-S and the dealer is putting in the 2nd replacement transmission right now (this is transmission #3).

I would like to share what I've learned in dealing with the transmission problem on my car:

1. On the 2003 TL's only VIN numbers past a certain number are covered under the extended 100k warranty. Do not assume that you are protected.

2. When Acura replaces your transmission, there is no "new" or extended warranty on the replacement transmission unless you buy an Extended Warranty.

In my case the original transmission went out at 48,000 mi and I had only a 50,000 mi warranty. The dealer told me I must buy the Extended Warranty to get more than 2,000 miles coverage on it. I thought that was ridiculous and took my chances. (I thought I would trade it in until the service manager talked me out of it.)

This 2nd transmission just went out at 56,000 miles (understand the replacement only had 8,000 miles on it.) Thank goodness Acura is going to replace it at no cost.

I have a serious concern about the safety of my car. This time when it went out there was absolutely no warning signs whatsoever. Like you have probably read about, the car came to a near complete stop when we were exiting off the Interstate coming home from vacation. It was smoking so bad we thought it would catch on fire.

I have requested an appointment with the dealer and an Acura representative. I love my car, but do not want it back. I have a 5-yr old and just can't take my chances with this happening again.

The dealer has been kind to us but they just don't seem to understand that this problem is not acceptable. Does anyone know if Acura has done buy-backs? Or what other course of action can I take??

Same situation here. The transmission on my 2002 TL went out at 30K, the second one went out at 60K, and I am at 75K on my third one. I too am concerned about my safety. I tried to sell my car to a dealer yesterday, and they only offered me what I owe on it, about 8K. I hate to part with my car for such a small amount, but with the transmission troubles, the market is flooded with these. I would like to think this third transmission has the fixes, but there's no way to know.

I recommend contacting Acura Customer Care. Go over the dealer's head since they don't seem to be helping much. Acura's Customer Care line can be quite helpful when you experience problems. Frankly, I believe your car should be replaced under the lemon law.

I did speak with Acura Customer Service and they told me they can only help with out-of-warranty repair work. Only the District Service Manager can assist with possibly getting me out of the car (trade-in assistance.) I am getting the run around. Think I will contact an attorney if this keeps up.

As for the warranty, the dealer tells me Acura has given them the OK to do all repair/replacement transmission work at no cost no matter the miles on the car. (Not just my car - all cars.) This is different than what I was told when the 1st transmission failed in January. Not sure if the District you are in makes a difference. Good luck.

2002 Type-S just over 100,000 miles bad transmission. Need Help! Does Acura have a handle on this problem. Is it time to give up on Acura. Any advise would be great! Are there currently any lawsuits against them for this problem? Thank-You.

A earlier posting referred to the Acura district rep stating they were replacing all transmissions. Would you happen to have this reps name or phone # or location? Thanks.

I have a 2001 Acura 3.2TL. It was my dream car when I bought it. I am in the same wagon with a lot of you. My original transmission went out at 39,000 miles. I started having acceleration jerks and hesitations, and sluggishness in general. It took 3 techs at the dealer to decide what was wrong. They decided it was the EGR valve and the transmission. So, replacement #2 transmission in, new EGR valve at $377 dollars, transmission was free. Car still not running good. Still has jerky gear changes and sluggish.? trading for lexus or infiniti.

Got my 2003 TL-S early 2002. Now at 45k miles tranny started acting funny - occasionally will not engage (in auto mode)when up-shifting from 2nd to 3rd - have to put it into manual, downshift to 2nd and then up-shift again.

I've seen posts on this site that Acura might have been finally found the fix for these faulty transmissions...

Anybody knows any replaced transmission on TL-S 01-03 that went on for more than 50k miles?

Thank

I have a 2003 Acura TL and it has 96k on it. It is at the dealer getting a new transmission at the moment. I have only had it one year (it was pre-owned). I love the car, but now I am scared that the new transmission will have the same problems! It sounds like they haven't fixed the problems that are causing the transmission to mess up to begin with! Am I just getting the same transmission, just a new one? If so I will take a loss and trade the car. I was also going to be a lifetime Acura customer. My last car was an integra. Any more problems and I am switching to Lexus!

My husband and I have a 2003 Acura TL Type S and we are currently getting ANOTHER new transmission. (This will be the second time we've replaced it) The car is currently under a 100k extended warranty (at 88k miles right now). Does anyone know if we can get another extended warranty to protect against these transmission issues? I'm afraid we'll hit 100k before we see the end of our transmission woes.

I wonder if we should all pursue some type of class action lawsuit. This is really ridiculous!

My 2003 TL2 TypeS had its transmission replaced earlier in 2006. I had less than 30,000 miles. I asked the dealer for an extended warranty, but none was given.

The dealer said they would "work" with me if it happened again.

So, if you received an extended warranty, consider yourself fortunate.
