Well, my lease runs out in July and I was thinking about buying my 2003 Acura TL Type S. I've noticed very mild slipping in the past, but I'm not sure if the transmission is having problems or if it is just not as smooth as my old BMW sometimes. Anyway, I've always felt that it was an overall good car and I have been inclined to buy it. Unfortunately, I am very nervous about the transmission so I called Acura to see what would and would not be covered should it go out. I was informed that only certain TL's have had their warranty extended and my particular VIN did not fall within that group. She said that not enough of the cars around my VIN have had problems so my warranty is only good to 50K. I then asked what am I supposed to do if I am the first one in my "batch" of TL's to have my transmission go out and she simply stated that my comment had been "noted" and we could address the issue at that time. I don't think so. Off to shop for another car.
No complaints thus far, but appears to be a ticking time bomb.
Don't do it!
