1992 Acura Vigor LS review from North America
"Acura's best kept secret!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The CV joints had to be replaced at 250,000kms, which I considered to be excellent service for original CV joints.
The entire exhaust system from the front pipe, mid-pipe, and rear muffler all had to be replaced between 200,000kms and 245,000kms; again outstanding service life for the original system, so I replaced it with OEM Acura parts again.
Front passenger power window switch was replaced at 255,000kms.
Automatic transmission selector position switch replaced at 195,000kms.
General comments?
I bought this Vigor in 1998 and still drive it today. Compared to all the cars that I've owned, I consider it the best overall value for money that one can buy, as long as you don't need to use the rear seats very often.
As many people have commented, the rear seat leg room is cramped, but its due not only to the large trunk, but also the layout of the engine and transmission. Acura decided to use a longitudinal layout in the Vigor which actually pushed the firewall so far aft of the front wheels that it contributed to the relatively small cabin space. That being said, the benefit of this layout is an almost perfect front to rear balance which makes the Vigor handle a lot more like a rear wheel drive sports sedan rather than a front wheel drive. Any car enthusiast who seeks the additional security of front wheel drive for adverse winter conditions, but does not want to sacrifice the handling and performance of a rear drive sports sedan should definitely consider a Vigor.
The stock wheels on the Vigor did not do the car justice, so I upgraded to 17" Mille Miglia EVO5 with 215/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza RE950 tires which is the proper up-size to keep the original wheel diameter. This is the only change that I've made to my Vigor and it has totally transformed the car into one very sweet ride. I get daily compliments on the cars looks, most people not believing that the car is 13 years old with the original Rosewood Brown metallic paint.
The overall exterior and interior build quality and finish of the Vigor is a testament to Acura's commitment to building a top quality automobile. Other that the above mentioned parts that I've had to replace over the years, everything else on my Vigor is all original and still works flawlessly, even the A/C still blows cold and has NEVER been charged in 13 years.
I am usually am tired of a car after a few years, however this car is an exception. After driving a friends Vigor with the 5spd manual transmission, I'm now looking to replace my Vigor with a 1994 Vigor GS 5spd.
