1996 Alfa Romeo 155 Twin Spark Sport review from UK and Ireland
"Sheep in wolf's clothing that needs care and attention"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The air conditioning has failed.
The front shock absorbers had to be replaced.
Bonnet struts have failed.
There is a small, but difficult to access oil leak.
Stop light bulbs have repeatedly failed.
General comments?
I used to have Alfa Suds (4) and the Vauxhall GSi was a stop gap. However both the 155 and the GSi had similar reputations and were both Touring Car styles. The 155 is nowhere near the build quality of the GSi.
Performance is limited by little low end torque and the engine needs to be revved hard for optimum acceleration. Alfa should definitely have done this model with the V6.
Handling is however superb and steering is extremely precise.
Handling is helped by very hard suspension on this model, but it is much too hard for town driving and hates speed bumps. My daughter hates being
in the back of the car.
However, the look of the car is very good, particularly with the low suspension, low profile tyres and side skirts.
