Greetings fellow alfistas!

Purchasing an alfa romeo is always a special occasion since the looks, performance, and italian style will make your life special. on the other hand we all know that with italian cars also come several problems! stupid problems that they don't pay attention too, making some people very annoyed! now I am currently an owner of an alfa gt 3.2 end of 2004 model, and I will agree with some people expressing there problems with the right passenger window getting stuck, and the rattles in the back rear hatch. in addition to the rattles my car seems to have a problem with the back seat; specifically when parking my car some pressure is always applied on the right rear wheel (suspension) of the car since the angle of my parking is upward, this causes a sharp squeak (rattle, I can't describe!!!) to the back column next to the rear seat. when I do the same with the rear seats down the problem is solved, so I am guessing that the chassis may bend a bit causing the plastics to apply pressure to the rear seat resulting to the annoying sound. other than that I have no problems mechanically, the suspension is very good, and the brakes are perfect. now my car is for service its done 26,000 km's I change the oil every 5000-6000 km's and now I am changing my front brake pads. Alternatively I am thinking of changing the rear bumper with an autodelta bumper equipped with the dual exhaust pipe set, and getting tinted windows; the car is red rosso and tanned leather inside, so it should look good.

The GT is one of the most beautiful cars on the road. I purchased a used 04 reg 1.9 JTD August 06 and have been very happy with it most of the time. Try getting 48 - 50 mpg from any other coupe. As a certain Mr J. Clarkson has indicated that you have not owned a car until you own an Alfa and know the heaven and hell of owning one. A great drivers car that loves flat straights and the twisty stuff and inspires each time you drive it.

Problems quite a few some minor some expensive. Windows sticking, Electric windows opening when away from the car. Leak into the cabin causing a musty smell, stiff acting passenger side seat rear access, radio packing in, steering rack needs replacing, and timing belt snapping due to poor workmanship by Alfa dealership (very expensive if not under warranty). I have got to know my local dealership very well, and bar the timing belt incident, they are a friendly and supportive and probably one of the best I have ever dealt with.

The Alfa Romeo GT is a cracking car and has got me hooked. Looks like I will go for another GT or a 159 JTDm Sportswagon after getting one as a courtesy car.

I bought a 55 reg Alfa GT diesel fifteen months ago. I love the car, everything about it is great, but there is a constant knocking which seems to be coming from inside the passenger door. It is driving me mad so much, so if it isn't sorted soon the car will be sold. Help!

I own a 2007 2.0 JTS GT. I love the car as it looks great and everyone comments on its lovely looks. However, as previous comments have alluded to I also have some problems. Rattling noise from parcel shelf, boot scraping paint on opening, inside trim coming away from pillar, noises from passengers door. Also, I do not seem to have any kind of warning for my washer fluid level, anyone else find this? Its in the garage soon to hopefully try and sort these out. Wish me luck.

Have to agree with many of the comments here. I have owned my Alfa GT 2.0 JTS for over 2 years and covered over 28,000 miles (had 2 services in that time).

THE GOOD: Great car to drive with good handling, grip and typical fabulous Alfa engine. Good power at pretty much any revs. Lovely mechanical feeling manual gearchange, though a sixth gear wouldn't go amiss on the motorway, just to reduce the revs and fuel consumption a little. Ah yes, I get 28 mpg out of mine on average in a mix of driving; some urban and some motorway and I don't drive my cars hard (well, not all the time anyway!). Hard pushed to get much over 30 even if you drive like a saint. Not quite the 32mpg Alfa claim and yes I know this is a sportscar and not the main reason to buy, but still a little disappointing for what is a new direct injection engine. Other good bits, well it looks fabulous and you'll get lots of admiring glances. Generally the right sort too; people like people with Alfas! Make no mistake this car really is something special in the style stakes and it gives you a warm glow owning one. Call it character if you want! It's practical too, seats 4 pretty comfortably and the boot will take a few suitcases or do the weekly shop no problem.

THE BAD: Sorry to report (and it almost breaks my heart to say this) but in my opinion the old Alfa ghost is still there; reliability. Not the stood at the side of the road sort waiting for the nice AA man, but the annoying "I'll have to take it back to the dealer" sort. Lets just say I've got to know my dealership pretty well, in fact in the first 12 months I think the car could make it's own way there! I have already had a new exhaust (faulty on delivery!), front anti-roll bar, front wishbones (twice at one side!), bolts that fell out of the heat sheild above the cat and had to be replaced, numerous rattles including the rear seat/hatch one mentioned, a drivers seat that fouls the centre console and creaks and squeaks (I have leather), rusting wheelbolts, rear foglamps that fog up with condensation, paint that easily chips and is coming off round the drivers door opening... I could probably go on. Perhaps some of these are being picky, but the car is sold partly as a quality item and was over £20k new. I know other cars have their faults too, including the German makes, but I do know at least some of these faults are common to several cars. For the car itself very little to fault. The ride is a bit harsh around town, the turning circle could be better and visibilty for reversing can be tricky for the inexperienced (the sensors are definitely a good idea!) though the door mirrors are good.

My experience overall has been slightly disappointing and I have to say, sadly, enough to make me look elsewhere for my next car. I will always admire the GTs I see on the road though and I admire Alfa for it's history and trying to do something different to the German offerings. I generally love Italian products for their flair. I can see why Alfisti buy these cars, but I don't think I have enough patience to run another.

Andrew.

I have a new 2lt GT Cloverleaf. Great car to drive, although it lacks mid range power.

32 mpg seems out of the question, more like 26-27.

The car is now back to the dealer for the third time with a leaking passenger door!

Disc and pads replaced in month 1 due to faulty pads! Mat screws not strong enough to hold in position!

Paint chips more than any of over thirty cars I have owned.

Dash screw fallen out exposing panel under steering wheel.

My suggestion to Alfa is improve your Q.C. and take B.H.P. to 175/180 Perhaps with turbo to improve M.P.G.

This is my fourth Alfa, and the only better driving satisfaction I have enjoyed was in a Ferrari which had similar failings and I kept for 5 years.

Fiat would sell more cars if they cared more about Q.C. But they don't!

I bought an Alfa GT JTDM 2006 (06) in 2009 with only 13,000 miles on the clock.

I have had the car 6 months and am sad to say it's up for sale or p/x for another brand of vehicle...

My complaint is as follows -

Car returned with wind noise around drivers door, fixed by changing 'membrane' and two new mirrors (had to go back as the 'technician' cracked a mirror plastic surround and neglected to tell me, I spotted it as I was about to drive away!)

Rear parcel shelf rattles to the point of distraction.

Drivers door paint down to bare metal (paint appears painfully thin and I am a careful when parking).

Seat squeak from leather on centre console.

Cruise control stopped working.

Windscreen wipers stopped working (drove to dealer in pouring rain).

2 x front discs plus pads (not under warranty although I have only done 5000 miles and have 12 months warranty).

Drivers window switch panel come adrift (Alfa say door panel is warped and switches won't click into door panel). Requires new door panel not covered by warranty.

Drivers door glass not aligned (needs resetting, not covered by warranty... well tell me what is!)

It's a crying shame as this is the ONLY car I have ever sold before my 3 year finance deal expires and I will never buy another Afa.

Quality control is poor and dealer confidence is for me at an all time low.

I am beginning to think this was not the bargain I imagined, and that it sat in a field for a proportion of its life.

Dealer says it's a 3 year old car, what do I expect! I say it's a 19,000 mile car regardless of age, and still under manufacturers warranty!

For sale used Alfa, one disappointed owner!
