1978 Audi 5000 Base review from North America
"A fabulous design"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
ODO cable broke twice the first year (1978-79)
At 10 years, the exhaust gasket was replaced.
Vacuum on air vents not working properly since about 1999.
Brake Master Cylinder was replaced April 2008.
General comments?
The 5 cylinder is Smooth as silk on the highway.
Normal maintenance done per book. Pennzoil 10-W40.
Disc Brakes have always worked well.
Interior still nice.
Original (GM Frigidaire) A/C compressor would freeze you out the first 10-12 years, better than my new cars.
