1994 Audi 80 estate review from UK and Ireland
"A safe dependable family car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
CV joints (both sides)
Airbag ECU.
Front Discs.
Front Shocks.
Rear Suspension bushes.
Bad running caused by faulty temperature sensor.
Cable in rearing wiring loom snapped, so rear wash wipe packed up (easy fix)
Coolant leak due to cracked core plug.
General comments?
Hasn't let me down ever in 3yrs, but beginning to develop annoying faults which are expensive to fix, even at independent specialist. Audi main dealer way too expensive (£60+vat per hour labour)
Cam belt service at 80,000 miles cost £1000!!
Nice to drive, but needs revving hard to perform at all (1.6 is definitely not gutsy enough for such a heavy car).
Base spec is paltry, not even electric windows, and with so much glass in the estate air con would be a real boon.
Still looks quite nice, hasn't dated, Audis have the least brash image of the prestige marques, even quattros are somehow more refined than beemers or mercs.
Boot disappointing for an estate, still need a roof box to go to away for more than a weekend.
