Speedo and odometer intermittently didn't work one day.
Replaced cam belt, tensioners and water pump as a precaution when purchased ($1200), as Car Inspection Services advised that cambelt rubber starts to perish after five years.
The car has very good performance pick-up wise. In terms of handling, there is very litle body roll, however, the steering has rather vague feel and doesn't feel very direct.
The trim is very tidy and appears to wear well. Overall the car and interior trim have a solid feel.
I'm thinking about buying an A3 1.8T Sport. It's a 2000 on an X plate with 52k and one owner from new. Any advice on this car would be great. I have a 97'BMW 318ti at the moment. 40bhp less than the audi so I would imagine there to be a significant improvement in performance.
Thanks.
The Audi's are a good car. Your BMW is chain driven, whereas the Audi is belt driven. The belt is rubber and tends to perish with time, so needs replacing at around 6 years or 100,000 kms. The water pump should also be replaced at this time.
The automatic transmissions need to be serviced to prolong their life. Without proper servicing, they often need expensive repairs between 100-120k kms. Only other thing is the suspension bushes develop play at around 80k kms. Very cheap to replace.
