1996 Audi A3 Sport review from UK and Ireland
"Stylish. elegant, but a bit expensive"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Brakes needed replacing, front and back within first year (£700 spent).
Car overheated on motorway, had to get towed home across the M62 (new water-pump needed).
Bulbs & wipers need replacing noticeably often.
A few rattles hear and there, seats squeak on corner.
General comments?
Needed a new back parcel shelf when purchased (Cost £90).
Noisy on motorways, but like the sound of the acceleration at high revs.
It could do with a 6th gear for motorways. How I wish I had one.
I'm aware of the steering column (feels loose sometime when cornering).
Good for tall drivers (I'm 6'10'').
Nice driving position, good adjustable seats.
Nice pull-out storage draws under seats and in door panels.
Feels solid, turns heads at times, but remains subtle in appearance.
Well designed interior without fuss.
Most new cars seem to be adopting qualities of the A3, but never really coming close!
