1999 Audi A4 4 Door Sedan review from North America
"It's great for looks, but horrible for reliability!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I first purchased this car from a private dealer, I was naive thinking that nothing would go wrong. It was obviously a great price for a horrible expense!
At around 100,000 miles, the shifting started to act up really bad. So, I took it into Audi, and they had to replace the broken transmission pan for $1,200,00! Of course no other car shop would deal with it!
Then, around 105,000 miles, I heard a horrible loud noise, and I had to take it into the dealer again to get it diagnosed and fixed. That cost $500.00!
Then, around 115,000 miles, my transmission REALLY started to act up. For example, it would take forever for it to shift into 2nd, and when it did, it would jerk the whole car and freak me out! It also would barely go into reverse!
I had no other option than to get a rebuilt transmission, which cost me $3, 800.00. I didn't have the dealer do it since it would be $6,000.00!
Now I have a major oil leak!
General comments?
The Audi A4 is somewhat of a bumpy ride. It drives roughly, especially on rough roads, and it feels like you are always hauling something behind you. In addition, the shifting is BAD.
