1996 Audi A4 Avant SE review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Minor paint damage on delivery. Oil low on delivery. Clock looses up to 5 mins per week. ABS warning lights after short journey. Odd electrical glitches e.g. windows have a mind of their own, odometer can reset when lights get turned off.
Hit by deer!
General comments?
The automatic climate control is a pain, bring back old fashioned air-con - it's like having a kid playing with the controls all the time. The car is smooth and quiet and obviously designed for the autobahn, although it does tend to wander. It's not a driver's car when it comes to country lanes. The steering is imprecise and handling too stodgy. Minimal engine braking adds to the sense of lack of control. The very sharp brakes settle after a few 1000 miles and the engine loosens up considerably. Avoid silver as other moving objects (eg deer) find it difficult to spot. Standard audio is crap.
