I have had several A4 1.9tdis, all from new, including a quattro. I wrote the initial comment. The issue with the windows opening has nothing to do with the buttons on the remote touching off something in your pocket - it is a fault with the car. The cure is to have the comfort opening and closing (which is a nonsense anyway) disconnected. With the quattro model, it really needs the 2.5tdi. It is noticeably more heavy on fuel (10mpg) and as the quattro saps power the 1.9tdi 130 feels a bit under- powered. Mine had the 18" karat alloys and the ride was hard and fidgety. Audis exude class and mechanically I have found them superbly realiable. I had to have the speedo binacle replaced and apart from the erratic windows, had no other problems. Also the resale is excellent. However, six months ago I test drove the new BMW 320d and I was sold... it beats the Audi in so obviously and in so many ways... still next A4 and I might re-convert!!
I had an A4 TDI and whilst driving wise it was excellent my family were generally less impressed. My wife and kids found the black interior extremely claustrophobic, especially when seated in the back of the car. The only technical fault I found was a climate control which seemed to be extremely poor when on cold mode to the point where I think it may have been broken. I personally would not buy another A4 as I was really surprised how little room there was in the rear and when you have a family... this matters.
Hi does anyone know how to close the boot on an a6 19 tdi estate
i opened it with the handle and now it won't close

Why are people comparing the A4 with the Passat??? The Passat is based on the A6 platform (or is it the other way round?)
No, the Passat, A4 and Skoda Superb share a platform. The Passat and A4 even share a Haynes manual, that's how similar they are!
Bought a 2nd hand A4 130 TDI Sport last year with 89000 on the clock. Love the car, no problems so far, although the boot's never opened on the button.
Very disappointed with fuel consumption; avg 36 to gallon. Best I've had is 43mpg on journey.
Had a 110bhp A3 before; mega on fuel, avg 47 no worries, and about 55 on journey, and driving it seemed faster than the A4.
But I love the A4, it just seems the newer the diesel engine you get, the poorer it is on fuel.

I recently purchased an Audi, A4 130 TDI sport (red i) The only reason I purchased the car was the fact that it was owned by a good friend of mine! Who I know was very meticulous about his cars and looked after them with no expense spared. The car is on a 52 plate and has full service history, oil changed every 5000-6000 miles.. along with the long services etc, it has at the moment 155000 miles on the clock and drives like a dream... I have had various makes over the last 20 years and this by far is a gem of a car, I just wish I had bought one earlier!! Ps the missus wants one so it's gonna hurt my pocket again, she wants the newer version!!
But ending on a serious note, very impressed and would recommend an Audi every time.
I own a Audi A4 130 TDI SE with the 6 speed box.
Man, what a car. Mega fast and mint on the fuel, I'm getting a minimum of 50 mpg, and on a run I can get it up to 60 MPG, and that's still driving at 80mph.
This car is my first Audi on a 2003 plate and is worth every penny. No problems to date other than wipers slowed down. Simple removal of the mechanism and a good clean up was all that was needed; cost me nothing.
I will keep this for a while yet, and will 100% stick with Audi again. You can't get better!!!
"you can't get better!!!"
Er.. have you heard of the BMW 3 series (E90)
