"Never buy an Audi they don't back there products"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

My oil light went on while I was driving to work one day when it was about 11 below zero out so I continued to drive to an exit where there was a gas station and the car never made. Now Audi will not replace my engine even though it is under warranty because I did not stop as soon as the oil light came on. I told them I had to get to a safe place and they told me that was a decision that I made myself and they were not responsible. Now I am stuck paying $7,000.00 for a new engine. Audi customer service. Wait never mind they don't have any.

General comments?

I must admit I do enjoy driving this machine. I drive 70 miles each way to work and this car makes the ride enjoyable. However after what happened I will never buy a Audi or VW again.

Don't blame your own mistakes on Audi. Never, ever drive a vehicle with the oil light on. Who cares if it was 11 below out? In retrospect, were those few extra minutes of comfort worth $6000? When your oil light comes on it means the oil level has dropped below absolute minimum. What do you think is going to lubricate the engine while you try to get home? Hope?

Audi was right. You blew it by not pulling over and calling for a tow.

How can you blame the manufacturer for your mistake?

I agree... I had a 2000 new A4 1.8T Q bought on November of 1999. It came with a tire replacement guarantee which they did not honor and due to the fact I turned my vehicle into a 4-door crumpled convertible. Those Dunlop tires they use are defective, and that is why thay switched them from their vehicles in the middle of 2001. I feel your pain and I am pissed off with you.

To The guy whom I quote 'turned my vehicle into a 4-door crumpled convertible.'...That was your negligence for driving on neglected tires. It is irrelevant whether Audi or yourself should have replaced them. You got what you deserved. Audi is better off without idiots like you as a customer.

Warning lights were invented for a reason.

No one should sell people as stupid as you a car, you could have hurt or killed others on the road if your vehicle had developed a serious fault.

To the two people who had the problems: take care of your car!!! It is not going to fix itself! When your oil light comes on, it means your oil pressure is too low, which means no oil is getting pumped into the engine! With a 1.8T you better pull over right away. Also, tires will do 40000 miles with heavy wear. Change them! These are simple, cheap, preventative measures that will save you thousands of dollars. It is an excellent car, just take care of it.

Why did you even tell Audi that you kept driving with the Oil light on? Yes, honesty is a good thing, but when you know that it will cause problems with the warranty, just play dumb. Next time pull over.

And to the person with the "convertible" Audi. Who flipped the car, the tires or your driving? If you had a blowout, you could have safely pulled off the road unless you were doing excessive speed or never learned how to drive a car.

Stupid people should not drive cars. Like someone already mentioned, warning lights come on for a reason; a problem. I drive a Cadillac Seville and the oil light comes on every once in a while because Northstar engines use oil. This cars carries 7.5 quarts of oil and the light comes on when it's a quart low. I don't drive a foot after that light comes on before I add oil to the engine. Audi should be commended for even putting a check oil light in the car. It's there so there shouldn't be a reason that the engine would be ruined if the oil level happens to run a bit low. They're trying to save you money by putting the light in there, but you chose to ignore it and are paying the price for it.

The oil light is supposed to come on BEFORE the oil is at absolute minimum. Which one of you would wait for a towtruck in -11 degree weather? that is unless you have aspirations of becoming an icepop. You should have never told the dealers you continued to drive the car after the light came on, MOST of them are just looking for a reason to blame you the driver. many on here are content with the shoddy service of dealers and Steve Wonder attention to detail of manufacturers. Funny how you all gang up on him for his actions all the while automakers and dealers get millions of dollars off you the driver. Shakes my head @ sheep

Bottom line is that you shouldn't keep driving with the oil light on. If you choose to do so, expect to pay for the damage done.
