This car is amazing. All you have to do is see it in person, sit in it, smell it, feel it, etc.. Drives like its on rails! This CAN be a costly car to own, especially if you are one who is loyal to the dealer. For me, someone who does all work/diagnosing myself, I have already saved $4,000 in labor costs/dealer part costs. These cars require attention and a dedicated maintnance schedule. There have been issues with the 1.8t engine that have been resolved. Such as oil sludge and premature timing belt failure. Audi has an updated bigger oil filter that reduces sludge and they also recomend using fully synthetic oil now. The timing belt failures that people have are due to a bad timing belt tensioner design, which has also been updated, and in some cases is covered for free. The main highlight of this car/engine is that for $400 you can reliably add 50hp, and 80tq.. Taking it from 150 hp to 200 with an ecu flash/chip.. It remaps fuel trims, changes timing, ups the boost etc. What is great is the stock turbo can reliably handle up to about 23 psi, where is only boosts at 7psi stock. The chip makes it boost around 15-18psi. The car is simply a joy to drive and is SEXY. A classic for sure.
Nice review. However, I would like to know if there is any official technical bulletin or something that the turbo can handle up to 23 psi. And what about the engine/gearbox internals? Thanks.
