General Comments:

Highlights:

The car is beautiful inside and out.

The engine has wonderful torque and power.

All-wheel-drive grip is phenomenal.

Steering feedback is excellent.

Safe and secure.

Driven at 8/10ths the car provides absolutely effortless speed.

Lowlights:

Dealer service is awful.

Long term quality is horrible.

Suspension is soft and squishy. The car wallows and bounces. Understeer is terrible.

Transmission shifter throw is about as long as a bus, and less precise.

Brakes are overboosted, grabby, and soft.

Seats are too wide and not securely mounted.

The car is very heavy, and feels like it.

I bought a yellow 2000 S4 Avant with 90,000kms (60,000 miles) and have had a list a mile long of problems.

1. Gearbox (replaced under car dealer warranty - $18,000AU (that's australian $$) - think of them as Canadian $$)

2. LCD Display had pixels missing - still arguing that this should be replaced under warranty

3. Drive Shaft replaced

4. Flywheel caused engine to rattle when turning off - relpaced

5. Clutch was slipping.

Either the car was thrashed to death or I got a lemon. Feels like I'm driving a 2 tonne car!

I RECENTLY BOUGHT A BLACK 2000 AUDIO S4. Since buying it, I have spent over $5k fixing the timing belts and water pump and alternator. I love the looks of the car, but the reliabilty is not that good. I had the car break down on the freeway and had to get it towed home. The reason that time was the alternator. Before owning this car, I had a Chevy Silverado with very little to no problems. I am currently trying to sell the car and will never buy a used Audi again.

Summary:

It's a nice luxury car, but don't buy it if you're looking for a serious sports car

Faults:

Radio changed stations when the car was turned off at 40k miles - needed to be replaced.

LED display in dash was missing lines at 45k miles - needed to be replaced.

Clunking noise in front at 50k miles - needed new tie rod ends.

Pulsing in brake pedal at 55k miles - needed new front rotors.

All of my repairs were covered by Audi's Certified Used Car warranty and because of the number of problems, I sold my car before the warranty expired.

General Comments:

The power was impressive and fun.

The handling was disappointing, the suspension is more luxury than sport.

The interior is extremely comfortable and quiet.

There was a bit of a lag when you floor it; aka. turbo lag.

If you have all-season or winter tires, this car handles awesome in the snow.

I think you are the problem, concerning the handling. It's more the way you use it, because its handling is just superb.

Summary:

A classy high performance estate

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

General Comments:

This is a great car, it has everything I want from a car.

It is extremely quick, comfortable, quiet, roomy and classy.

The build quality and finish is superb with no squeaky or rattles.

The gadgets are endless.

It is very much a wolf in sheep's clothing.

But best of all it is serious fun to drive... I love it.
