Slow oil leak - still to be fixed.
Ignition (barrel) beginning to give some problems - a known issue - key sticking in barrel, for instance.
Coolant leak - broken seal, cured.
Great car - best I've owned so far. Quick, secure, safe, properly built. Interior very comfortable, clear dials, quite spacious. Boot is shallow, but deep.
MPG is tough - best I've ever got is 35mpg on an extended run. Around town it's looking like mid teens, week in, week out it's 21mpg. Also lots of stuff going on under the hood - hoses, seals, fluid lines everywhere. These things can and do go wrong having an Audi specialist nearby (I guess) would help.
I think this is a real eye-catcher of a car, in platinum silver with 17inch AVUS alloys it still holds its' head up with current BMW's, Audi's, etc. Very good value in the UK at the moment (2006).
With a good mechanic and being able to live with the mpg the S6 is a wonderful car to own.
Revisiting this review - oil leak as mentioned has been fixed. Leaking oil pressure switch. Cheap fix and all is well now!
Spray WD-40 into the ignition and insert the key repeatedly, followed by inserting it repeatedly while turning it through its contact stops. The ignition functions like butter if you really work it in there. I've even heard this is a common german mechanic's trick after mentioning this procedure to one.
A very fine car. The best I owned. I have an avant one, full options.
I bought it at 100K miles, now it has 150K without any trouble. Uses some refrigerant water, probably due to some leaking tubes, but nothing to be worried about, just fill a bit every month and uses about 1Kg oil every 10K miles, really nice.
I can't say anything else. The car is perfect and I bought another one for my wife. A "definitive" car.
