1999 Audi TT Coupe review from UK and Ireland
"Better to be seen in than to be in"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rev counter failed.
Catalytic converter shield rattled.
General comments?
This car is gorgeous to look at, very quick and well made. As a driving machine though, it is very disappointing.
Pushing the car hard into a corner induces all manner of electronic wrist-slapping from the various driver aids. If you're really aggressive with it, you can make it understeer profusely, and that is about it. Added to this, the steering is overassisted and lacks feel, and the brakes are spongey.
It's the kind of car that almost anyone could jump into drive very quickly, but it lacks any form of challenge or character. Feels a bit trinket-like for my liking.
