1955 Bentley S1 review from Australia and New Zealand
"Historic in feel, but friendly in nature"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Battery earth.
Doors not closing - wrong rubbers.
Boot not locking and closing.
Muffler holes.
High beam switch.
Windscreen motor - need re-greez.
Must have the right mechanic - an old car lover.
General comments?
Just like a Cloud 1. Less mad looks than a Rolls.
A big car for parking in the city. I use bus stops
and disabled spots.
Not a fast car, but can sit nicely at 80 miles with no corners.
Lots of leather and walnut wood that's everywhere and surrounds the driver. Had the seats re-coloured to the original red.
Was owned by my father until I was 7. 1974 -81. Then brought back by me after it had been in a collection for 20 years or so.
Had to get it back on the road. Brakes cost 7k, all stuffed from storage. Engine rebuilt 30k. Transmission at 15k by the owner I purchased from.
Loved it when I was a kid and had said I going to buy that particular car back. Father said you will never be able to afford it... he was wrong.
Do buy one, they are a car you will respect. But make sure it is the right one. Get an inspection, you will need one. It could be your worst nightmare. But a good one is very affordable.
