Nothing whatsoever.
Almost organic in nature - car is able heal itself/self repair - quite uncanny - nothing like any other car I've come across in 20 years of motoring.
Economy / reliability / performance / road holding / handling / driver engagement / comfort
better than any car I've ever known better than some £40000 cars - I paid only £1700 3 years ago for my 325td.
This car is now not too far off 200000 miles, but it will outlive most modern cars - engineered like a Boeing 747.
In addition to the reliability and absolutely astonishing engineering integrity - there is the sublime design/aesthetics that are so remarkable compared to the bland anonymity of modern transport boxes.
There are better cars around. I drive a BMW too.
I agree fully. Having driven/owned/lived with all manner of exotica from Porsche to Bentley - in the real world there is no better car with such a wide ranging blend of attributes. There are cars many times the price but known better engineered. The BMW 6 cylinder engine, 5 speed autobox, perfect 50-50 weighting of the car, and the tuned suspension lifts this essentially nondescript car in terms of pricing/snob value into categories far above those of it direct competitors from which it delivers a knock out punch to the likes of the Golf GTi - and that from a diesel engine - more torque than a Porsche - engineering that shames Mercedes Benz and handling to match an Aston Martin - all this from a diesel auto. Unbelievable - if you haven't experienced it. To date there is no better mass produced engine (let alone a diesel one) in any comparable road car.
