1993 BMW 3 Series 325is review from North America
"Buy a clean one without problems"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Door panels loose.
Driver window regulator broke.
Headliner sagging.
Windshield very fragile.
Shocks all around.
Sunroof only opens sometimes.
Windshield wipers come on at random times.
Gear shifter linkages are worn.
Some rust, but not too bad comparing to American cars.
Catalytic converter gone - $500.
Glove box sagging.
General comments?
Well, these cars share a lot of common problems that I've mentioned above.
You can find more details on BMW forums. There are a lot of DIY's that I've followed to fix this car. It's not a complicated car to work on, and it works out way cheaper to do it yourself rather then pay dealer rates 90$/h at a private BMW shop 100$/h + at a full scale dealer.
I got the car knowing what I was getting into, and it was a project. Hence all the problems I listed are simply a lack of care and maintenance for the most part.
The best way to fix these cars is to use local BMW salvage/take-apart sources.
Here in Toronto there are a lot of shops who deal with strictly used BMW cars they take apart and sell parts.
Comes out way cheaper then the dealer or new prices, which are a grand rape to spend on an old car like this.
The good things are:
VERY nice handling
Comfortable firm interior
Good driving position
interior has a solid feeling
Very quiet inside
Lots of aftermarket available
Lots of used parts available
I'm used to driving big V8's so I can comment on the power. However it's respectable for a 2.5L it seems.
