1999 BMW 3 Series 323is review from North America
"Great car, a little pricey on repairs, but worth it in the long run"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
- Front arm bushings needed to be replaced.
- Passenger's window stopped working, thought it was a fuse, turns out someone shoved movie tickets between the seal and the window and it got stuck, causing the window to stop rolling down.
- Drivers side leather began to split due to wear and tear.
General comments?
After crashing and totaling my 67 Mustang, I was looking for something that would be just as cool, being 18 at the time. My father gave me one restriction, the new car must be under 10 years old, and it must be in my price range, as we were using insurance money for the replacement.
After looking and looking and looking, I stumbled upon the BMW 323is, and fell in love.
I loved the car from the moment I got into it, although I was still bitter about losing the Mustang, the beamer was fast, cool, comfortable, luxurious, and got good gas mileage (although at the time I didn't know that - stupid me). It never had any huge problems, just a few regular ones for this model, it really picked it up when you needed it to, although it did start shifting a little rough, and after a while the outside temp thermometer switched to Celsius, and no matter how hard I looked in owners manuals and online, I couldn't figure out how to switch it back, but whatever, easy enough to convert in my head.
I needed the money, so I decided to sell the beamer about a year and a half after we bought it, telling myself repairs were too expensive for me to afford and that 25 mpg wasn't good enough for a car its size.
BOY WAS I WRONG, I regret selling it every day. And am now looking for an earlier model BMW, to get my fix.
