2005 BMW 3 Series 320d SE touring review from UK and Ireland
"Overall the best car I have driven - bar a 520d"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Remote central locking failed (could still use the key and drive the car) - needed a new RF amplifier.
General comments?
Excellent performance from the 2.0L turbo diesel with a very useable rev range (1300-4500rpm). It seems particulary responsive uphills. 330d must be amazing...
Economy is excellent and I manage 45-47mpg overall.
Handling is excellent, but the stability control comes in quite quickly spoiling the fun when pressing on. Yes, I could turn is off but many years ago I crashed a 325i when the tail got wayward so I am careful(scared)
Interior is well designed and more roomy than the previous model. Standard radio is power and sounds muffled and distorts at high volume. BMW seem to have skimped on the speakers compared to the previous model.
BMW have painted the top of the rear bumper unlike the old model which was black plastic. It get badly scrathed if you 'use' the load carrying abilities of the car. I had to spend £20 on some sticky backed plastic strip from BMW to cover allt he scrathes.
Also the 520d is only another £1300 (+5% in overall cost) and is bigger, better looking and has more extras as standard. Wished I'd waited 2 weeks before placing my 320d order as I'd have bought the 520d.
