To the person who's going to get a 328i 1998; just go for it and have fun. After you drive a well maintained BIMMER your life will never be the same.
ROFL! An automatic 328. Please get a bus pass.
It sounds like this guy has a problem with his dad rather than his BMW. Read his last sentence in the review.
I agree, any car will have its share of problems and if you don't take it to an independent mechanic before you buy, then you're buying the previous owner's problems. That's what happened here.
Happens with every brand. Especially domestics. Too bad. The 328 is sweet car.
You are right. Manual is way more fun than automatic, but still one of the best cars on the road.
I am about to buy a used 1998 328i BMW. I am female. I love the look of it. Convertible, silver grey with black top and black leather seats, auto with all the trimmings (except a CD player, but that's not huge). I have heard good reviews on BMWs, but agree nothing is good if you don't maintain it. I understand my car to be was lady driven and well maintained. I will check out all the docs, but I want to hear from women who drive this car... not students. I want to know that I can get from point A to B with no problems and have a good looking, safe car to drive for the next few years. Comments please!
DAMNIT!! If I hear one more person say "V6 BMW"...I...I..I just don't know...I'm going to do something! Bavarian Motor Works has never installed a "V6" in an automobile..Ever! Just like Mopar has never had a posi rear end; try sure-grip.
The kid does however seem frustrated with old pops like the other cat states, not so much the car. He probably opened the bonnet but had no idea what he was viewing, (clue..v6?). These are actually pretty decent automobiles if you stay one small step ahead of it. Nonetheless some things were suspect to quite of few BMW's that most often needed replacing unexpectedly ie. that piece of crap plastic radiator. Keep a ear out for wheel bearing noise. You would be much happier with a manual trans.. and so would the car.
If you were to own a 1990 Audi V8 quattro with UFO brakes then you're talking some costly maintenance. Chow.
