1992 BMW 3 Series 320i review from Australia and New Zealand
"Very fun, reliable, but should be wary of the fuel consumption"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Donut Shaft has gone wrong, but according to the dealer it was time to be replace.
Rear passenger seats has tear on it.
There was another shaft thing that was replaced, but I can't recall the name.
General comments?
This car has the traditional old BMW good handling and poise. Seriously quick for it's engine size due to the DOHC configuration. I also has a 2000 Mercedes Benz C 240 and the 320i beat the Mercedes in initial start. Seating position is not as comfortable though, I know this because my girlfriend complain about the 3-series seat often (what do they know anyway). This car is used by my girlfriend mainly and she used to drive a 1990 Honda Civic. SO naturally she also complain about the fuel consumption on this car. Although I have to admit that my C-class is more economical, but the BMW is way more fun to drive. The steering of the BMW is heavier than the C-class, but I am thankful for that when making sharp turn around bends. IT IS VERY PRECISE!!! The trademark of almost every BMW and I'm quite proud to say that this is done when the car still retain it's original suspension system (Not after market where IT WILL IMPROVE THE HANDLING EVEN MORE). I would recommend to get the 325i made after 1993 when all e36 except 318 is equipped with VANOS. I had a 325i before in the states and it was really good on gas, reliability and performance. One time I drove that 325i from Massachusetts to New York WITH THE RADIATOR NON-FUNCTIONING since I had a crash a few days before. I just drive it with full heater, open ventilation and high speed where it apparently stabilise the temperature (according the thermostat, don't know whether it actually cool the engine). All in all, I would recommend the e36 for those want to have fun with a budget, but not afraid to shell out some cash for fuel. Oh...apparently, the fuel consumption is much...much...much better if you use 91 Octane instead of 98, but 98 give you more push (For those who live in NZ).
