1985 BMW 5 Series M535i from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Hidden gem! Find one if you can!NO GET ONE!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Ignition barrel/tumbler failed on me with the steering lock still on. Had to remove lock and barrel and replace with new items. The cost only £102 from BMW.

Not so much as a fault, but more of a drag, the car still has original metric/trx alloys so expensive tyres.

General comments?

Love six cylinder cars and a jump up from a v6 2.9 scorpio was always on the cards.Brilliant!manual box, big six, great straight line performance!

My M535i is not in a1 condition more like b1 but I love her!

Fuel economy is only a little bit worse than the more modern ford!

How fast can these things go? Could I get 160mph out of it if I took the limiter off? Also what is servicing on these things?

I should think 160+ would be within grasp through some mild tuning.

Performance exhaust & headers, kent camshaft, k&n with a good cold air intake.

...or go the m-power route and soure a good m5/m6 engine

Warning though dog-leg gear box`s are sought after, but don`t seam to be that strong.

Stick to a normal 5 speed manual layout if possible.

Leave it standard. It's rare and brilliant as BMW made it.
