1988 BMW 7 Series 750iL review from UK and Ireland
"Express Train"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
New Radiator
Steering joints
Air conditioning dryer replaced.
Self-leveling leaked. Unit replaced.
Usual consumables such as brake pads and tyres lasted well considering the hard usage car had in Germany.
Interior holds up well.
General comments?
Beautifully made car.
Superb build quality.
Supremely stable at high speed, fairly quiet.
Firm, comfortable ride and comfortable seats.
Would cruise at 120mph all day long, but wind noise a bit high above that speed.
Electronically limited to 155 mph.
Averaged about 21 mpg overall.
Used as a city car, mpg drops to about 16.
Extremely complicated car mechanically and electronically, but a pleasure to own and drive.
Dealer servicing good, but expensive.
No problems with engine or transmission.
Cheap to buy at high miles, but hard to sell at very high miles.
Few people want to buy a quarter million mile gas guzzler.
Paid 7,000 pounds in '96
Sold for 600 pounds in 2002.
First owner paid 54,000 pounds.
