1993 BMW 7 Series 740IL review from Australia and New Zealand

"You have luxury, power, class. what more could you ask for?"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing been very lucky or maybe they are all this good!! always serviced on time (make sure you service it on time) and thats every 5000km not 10,000km

General comments?

The best car that money can buy!!! Firstly I would like to warn you young kids out there don't be fooled buying a 750IL just because it is a V12, I have had the 750IL and it is dreadfull, it's a great car compared to most other makes around the world, in fact it was the world best 4 door saloon back in its time, but that only lasted till late 1992 when the first 740IL arrived. The old 4 speed gearbox was thrown away, replaced with the latest technology that no other car manufacturer had at the time, 5 speed AUTO. The old 2 valve per cylinder that only had a single cam per bank was also thrown away and replaced with the world finest V8 Quadcam, that is right a Quadcam 32Valve V8 what more could you ask for? (maybe a quad cam 48valve v12) but that was not available back then.

The 740il had almost the same power as the 750il, and 0-100km was identical. Infact the handling in a 740 was much better and the fuel consumption much lower. They both reached 0-100km in 7.2 sec, but for all young guys out there stick a powerchip gold 98 in your 740 (but remember then you have to use 98 octane fuel at all times) Then you will put the 750 back to it's place. that's right you will go 0-100km in 6.8 sec. The V8 engine noise completly changes at high revs, its like your bringing the animal out of it. You will be the king of the road in one of the world finest luxury LWB sedans.
