I inherited this car from my grandpa after he went to the nursing home. When he still drove it, he maintained it in the most anal retentive way possible. Most of the above problems are a result of storage for 11 years.
For the reliability its given me over the past 3 years and 43,000 miles, you can't beat this car. Gas mileage is a real headache sometimes (12-17 MPG), but this is a car with a spirit that won't die. Although its nearly twice my age, the styling has really grown on me. Parts are surprisingly cheap if you can find good ones at a salvage yard.
Room and comfort are something else. You can actually FIT 6 large adults in this car, with room to spare. And the trunk could probably swallow a GEO Metro whole. It's a great car for road trips.
The engine has power, power, and more power. The first time I power-braked it I burnt up my tires for nearly 3 blocks. I surprise and embarass many modern Honda, Toyota, Camaro, and Mustang drivers. This car has no problem going 120 MPH, and wastes no time getting there. It is also quite stable at high speeds, as long as you don't pull any stupid manuvers with it.
I own a much smaller Toyota Corolla to save money on gas, but I wouldn't part with my old Buick for anything.
Good review. It might just convince me to buy the 1972 Centurion 2-door convertible I just found for less than $1000. With no dents it really only needs a steering pump and a paint job.
Thanks.
Craig.
These are great cars. I inherited mine from my mom. She had the same thoughts when it came to maintaining her Convertible. I remember long road trips with the whole family. Me and my brother were able to stretch out full length in the back seat, on opposites sides (if you got past the feet beside your head) to sleep. BIG CAR! During the last 10 years of her life, it was garaged and some minor dents and 'oops' happened. But it still runs great.
Unfortunately I have to sell this wonderful 'Boat' It has 61,000 original miles and is in need of a paint job and carpet. The rest of the car is solid, Starts and runs great. I replaced the top in 2001.

My mom used to have a 1972 Centurion 4dr. and she loved to smoke sports cars with the battleship. Hers had the 455 stage 1 which although rated at 360hp actually is dynoed at about 425hp with 510ft/lbs of torque. These battleships were well made and very powerful.
