2000 Buick Century Custom review from North America
"Nice car which GM should update problem areas"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Had to have the intake manifold gasket replaced because oil had mixed in with the coolant at 54,0000 miles.
Off and on since purchase, I have had a lurching sensation when the car tries to shift gears. At 84,000 miles had the torque converter clutch solenoid and PC solenoid replaced.
Around 58,000 miles, the rear window would not function, but then around 62,000 it suddenly started working.
General comments?
I am "relieved" to know that I have not been alone in my problems with my 2000 Buick. At the dealership, when purchasing this car with 54,000 miles, he had just replaced the brakes and put new tires on it. I had noticed an oil leak which they agreed to fix (they thought it just was a bad filter) ended up costing them because the intake manifold had to be replaced as it had rotted and caused oil to get in with the coolant.
My mechanic diagnosed the torque converter clutch problem at 84,000 miles and thought that replacing the transmission fluid, etc. would solve the problem of the lurching and hard shifting episodes which started around 60,000. When this did not solve it, I took it to a GM dealership and they replaced the torque converter clutch solenoid and PC solenoid. I will probably also call the above mentioned about having a recall put on this problem.
I am otherwise very pleased with its gas mileage and comfort of ride and handling. I have only had the car for four years, but overall am happy with it.
