Brake rotors and pads.
Fuel tank (got a hole knocked in it).
Front wheel bearings.
Headliner starting to sag.
Power window motor went out in back.
Replaced all shock absorbers.
My friends call it "the beast", but I love my baby. It's a big ugly green booger lookin' mother, but it has room inside, and lots of power. The seats are like sitting in lazy boys.
It drinks gas like there's no tommorow - oh well.
Sure is comfortable for long trips, like Oz-Fest last summer. Many people are surprised at just how much guts this old dog has, I was ticketed last month for going 119 in a 75, and lost my license for a while. Probably enough power under the hood to pull a freight train, by my guess.
The original stereo sucked, well not that bad since it's older than me, but that's the first time I actually SAW an 8-track. My friends joked about it for weeks. But my beast has treated me well so far, with ice cold A/C and almost instant heat in the winter, and I will keep it for a while, until I can find a car that attracts girls rather than scaring the living hell out of them.
It probably has an Oldsmobile 403 motor.
You actually went 119mph on your Buick? I thought the full size Buick's of this era only went up to 85mph?
Yes, that's right. It is a little-known fact that no vehicle can go faster than the highest number on its speedometer. Obviously the reviewer is mistaken -- once the speedometer needle got to 85 mph, the car would have stopped accelerating.
Those cars had no governers or speed limiters. I can see one with a 350 or 403 possibly hitting 120 MPH, but it would take a long, straight stretch of road. Even my 1983 Le Sabre with a 307 was good for over 95 MPH. The top speed on this car is limited by drag, low horsepower and weight, not a speedometer. There is a little peg at the bottom of 85 and 5 to keep the needle from wrapping around for some reason. Speedometer cables were notorious for breaking on old cars. There is no way they would or could use one to limit speed.
It's true these cars can go faster than what it reads, because I have a 77 Buick Limited with a 403 and an after market exhaust (Magnaflow). I put it on a machine to read its horses and top speed; mine top out at 128mph.
