I am confused. I bought a 2000 Buick with 59k Dec/01/06.

Three windows were broke and the GM shop acted like they didn't know the problem existed. They are repairing them free. I am glad that I found the problem before I bought the car.

I just wish I found this web site sooner, as I would not have bought it. GM should address this.

I thank you all for your input. I have an appointment in the morning to buy a 2005 La Sabre, but am now going to cancel out on the deal. You can all at least feel some good has come from your woes, Buick just lost me before you could say " gotcha" Thanks again to you all.

My parents own a 2000 Buick leSabre.

It has lost the right rear power window motor 3 times and the car only has 21,417 mile on it. The first two were paid for by GM.

This last one will be paid for by my 80 plus year old parents.

They bought a Buick thinking it would serve them well. So far it has not.

They also own a 2002 Sienna by Toyota. Now its all they drive and it has caused no problems.

I will not buy a Buick and if I take ownership of this car I will unload it ASAP.

I'm glad I found this site and sorry that I have another horror story - my 76 year old mother's 2000 Buick century with 17,000 miles now needs the 4th window regulator replaced. Now no one in my family will even look at a new GM car again.

And I thought I was all alone. Got a 01 Le Sabre that had 7k in miles from my grandmother when she passed. Have about 50K in miles now and have replaced 3 windows and the 4th broke today. What a pain. I may try to fix this one myself with the directions given on here. Thanks for the directions by the way. I would be nice to see something done, but I doubt anything will come of it anytime soon.

The passenger's side rear window on my 2001 Le Sabre quit working several months ago. I jammed it up with clothes pins with plans of repairing it when I got the chance. When the other rear window dropped down a few days ago I thought I had better research the problem, so here I am. I went to the local dealer yesterday and found that it would cost about $375.00 per window to repair and that Buick wasn't offering any relief on this problem. I'm disappointed with GM and this will certainly dissuade me from purchasing another GM product.

The problem with my 2003 Buick LeSabre Limited is the dashboard illumination for the radio, Temp Controls, switches located on the doors and the tach and speedometer cluster. Approximately six months ago the lights for these devices began to fail. The switches still work its just that at night you are unable to see them. Prior to this problem I had to replace all the control switches on the steering wheel for the same reason. Again the switches continued to work, but you could not see them at night. I took the car to the local Buick dealer and was told to fix these illumination problem they would have to replace the radio, the temp control unit, the tach. and speedometer cluster and the other switches. The cost of doing this would be $1,914.77.

I contacted GM and they concurred with the dealer that this was what needed to be done to solve the problem. It seems to me there must be some kind of a design flaw when it costs almost $2,000.00 to fix these units so they can be seen at night. The dealer says it is because there is no way to replace the LED’s which provide the light for these devices. I have been buying LeSabres since the early 80's and have never had to pay such an amount for any repair. Currently the illumination for the temp. control is completely out, the radio buttons are over half out and two quadrants in the tach and speedometer cluster are out. The car is 4 years old and has 72,000 miles on it. If the lights on the tach and speedometer cluster fail I believe this would be considered a safety hazard.

I bought a 2001 LeSabre with 38000 miles on it and was told by owner that the driver side power window had been repaired. Now, at 49000 miles it has failed again. Who or where do you talk to at Buick to get something done about this? This is ridiculous. Surely they know this is going to kill their business.

I own a 2000 Buick Le-Sabre limited. I had 3 power windows replaced before I had 60,000mi. There truly is a problem on a lot of Buick`s I am told.

Thanks for sharing your comments. I, too, would join in a class action law suit. I also agree with the recommendation to file a complaint with https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov. Here is my story.

General Motors Cars:

(A) 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora, with 55,000 miles

(B) 2002 Buick Lesabre, with 62,000 miles

1. In June 2006, within 2 weeks of one another, both rear power windows on Car A just dropped. Repair and replacement cost about $500 for each window.

2. Last night (2/18/2007), in 28 degree weather, we got into Car B to return home and when we shut the doors, both right side windows dropped. It was frigid and I put a blanket up to keep the cold out. This blocked my view of the right side of the vehicle and I almost hit a pedestrian. I will take the car to a dealership for repairs and replacement which will undoubtedly cost over $1000.

In both cases, I engage the child door locks and window control to prevent children from opening or falling out of the window. When the rear window falls as it did, children are in danger.

While doing research and finding this site, I have discovered that this has been a problem for Buick since 2000. Why has the problem persisted for many years, till the 2002 model year and beyond!? This problem demands a recall (and maybe a class action suit)!

And the trend continues. I already had the rear passenger side power window of my 2000 LeSabre fail to the tune of $309 two years ago. Now the drivers right rear side power window has failed in the same manner. "estimated cost $400". I am currently contacting a handyman type friend from my church who has made this repair on other LeSabres of the same year. Should cost under $200. Not so funny thing is that we are empty nesters-kids married-and rarely does anyone ride in the rear seats of our LeSabre. The front windows are up and down all the time and no problem with them. Could the problem be related to lack of use of rear windows? Is it mostly rear window that are failing? If a guy got good at this repair he could make good money and charge half what the dealers do. Advertise locally and set up a business~

Helpful hint: Do a Google search using this:

"2000 Buick LeSabre power window regulator"

You will get a list of companies who sell the replacement part, about $100 plus shipping. That's $200 less than the dealer now find a talented friend to install it for $50-$60 and you sure have the dealer beat.

My 2002 Buick Le Sabre Limited has had two windows fail before 50,000 miles. The last time I went to get it fixed the service consultant at my dealer showed me the tool (a door stop) that they loaned to their customers when they could not wait for repairs. He had several of these in his desk! Obviously a very common problem. Both windows so far have been covered under my extended warranty, but the warranty is up in two months, thanks for the tips on getting these repaired for less (they quoted $550 each). I have also had brake problems with warped rotors in the front causing severe shimmy. They replaced the front rotors. 8,000 miles later they want to do it again! They have also replaced the intake manifold gasket twice due to leaking coolant. Do I need to find a different dealer or a different car?

I bought my 2000 Buick Le Sabre in September 1999 and my power windows have failed 9 times. The car runs well with 124,000 miles on it. GM knows that they have a problem, but refuse to compensate us or fix the problem permenently.

I think the problem has began in earlier made cars as well. I have an early 90s Lesabre, great car, except now the drivers window is down and won't go up. I hear the window motor run for a few seconds (without moving the window of course). Is this what kind of problems everyone has had. I'm hoping it will not cost 400$ to repair. I have tried to get something down in the window to pry it up to no avail. Any suggestions? It is a terrible thing to have a nice car with petty window problems. The car only has 48,000 miles on it. Just thought I would vent a little and let it be known it happens in the earlier made cars too. Unfortunately!
