1984 Buick Regal review from North America
"Quick and Reliable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Transmission needed flushed at time of purchase
Also needed new rocker covers at time of purchase.
Choke motor contacts corroded causing erratic cruise control during cold months (not fixed)
Right-rear frame behind wheel well rusted at about 45000 (common to all Regals, Monte Carlos, etc...) ($200)
A/C Compressor threw bearings ($150)
New front brakes at 47000 ($40)
New heater core at 40000 ($100)
Door stabilizer piece (little brass ring) wore off causing door to seal improperly ($40 fix)
New Belts at 50000 ($80)
Headliner Fallen.
Timing Gear failed, falling into oil pan and blocking oil pickup. now the car sits. (also common to the Buick 3800 I hear)
General comments?
Pretty comfortable, ample legroom in front and back, and power to spare.
Car looks like a boat compared to the imports today, but its only mid-size and handles better than any import I've driven. For that matter, even with the soft suspension, it handled better than ANY other car I've driven to date.
Was my daily driver for about a year.
Raced on numerous occasions. Nothing better than showing a civic owner who's boss!
Great in the snow too.
Wish I had the money to put into fixing this car. great for the money and it did its job quite well. Much more performance than most older cars.
