1997 Buick Riviera review from North America
"I wish they still made them because I'd buy a new one in a heartbeat."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The transmission started not shifting into higher gears, causing the engine to
rev high even in low gears.
Water pump went at about 55,000 miles--normal wear.
Gas gauge stopped working after gas was lower than 1/2 tank. I used the trip meter instead.
The memory for the driver's side seat and mirror control, passenger mirror tilt control didn't always work.
Factory cd player worked on and off after about 50,000 miles.
There was an oil leak after 40,000 miles, not major though.
Check coolant light always going on and off, even though no radiator problems.
General comments?
Despite the problems, the car was overall the most comfortable car I have owned, and I was always amazed at the immense pick-up on such a heavy car. It was like riding in a rocket ship.
The ride was smooth always, handled amazingly for such a long car.
Always got compliments on the styling.
Not bad on gas at all, although had to use premium.
This car was never a headache, despite the quirky flaws.
