1989 Cadillac Brougham D'Elegance review from North America
"This car rules"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Choke would not disengage at purchase.
Power antenna does not move on it's own at purchase.
At purchase, heater will not operate unless defroster is turned on first.
Driver door lock won't operate with key shortly after purchase.
Wiper switch and motor burned out at 146,000 miles. Had them both replaced, but the new switch is malfunctioning again.
General comments?
This car is amazing. I love it to death. I've always liked cadillacs. My first Caddy was inherited from my Grandfather, a 1986 Deville. It ran well, but it had high mileage and eventually gave out. This was my first car of choice, I looked endlessly to find one, and just when I was about to give up, I came across it on the internet. It was especially hard for me to find this car cause I was holding out for black, but it was worth it.
THe car rides amazingly. I'm in love with it's size. It doesn't feel like I'm driving a car, it feels like I'm riding in a sitting room.
A few small things have gone wrong, but nother serious. The engine, while weak, is very reliable. If you need to really get this car cruising, you can put the pedal to the floor. It'll take a while, but you can get it going better than most rice burners out there. It's not that the car lacks speed, It lacks the accelerating power to get there. It can be a pain when you're trying to merge on a highway, but who cares? You're in a cadillac. Everyone should make way for you.
The car's great size also makes it tough to fit in some parking places. Inconsidereate drivers think no one is driving anything that big and tend to do terrible parking jobs, leaving me little room. Don't be mistaken, you may think trucks and SUVs are larger than this car, but only in height. the actual length and width of this car is only surpassed by the largest of vans.
THere's really nothign bad about this car. It looks great, feels great. Id' complain about gas mileage, but there's no need. If it costs al ittle extra to drive a car of this stature, i'll pay it. I bought the car for 1000 dollars, which is really a steal, considering it's in great condition. When I actually arrived at the previous owner's house to see the car, there were two more just like it parked in front of it. his brother owned one, and he had just bought a new one. Probably the only reason he was willing to part with it.
Cadillacs may not be for everybody, but if you're thinking of getting one, Get a brougham. The last of the truly big cadillacs, it's size and appearance really command attention, not that you'll care. you'll be too happy driving it.
