1989 Cadillac Brougham d' Elegance review from North America

Well... it sat for at least a couple of years before I bought it. Lots of new muffler pipes, gas line from tank to pump, all new brake lines. Plus I heavy tow with it (3000 + lbs), so new U joints, tranny flush, and brakes.

Heater core went bad, but VERY easy to change as the ENTIRE heater box is forward of the fire wall. (well worth all the CAPS, no pulling the IP).

Goofy electrical things have gone wrong. Down to 2 speakers from 4, and they use 10 ohms (rather strange). Had the pull handle break off the interior passenger front door. Being a shade tree mechanic does help.

BUY THE FACTORY MANUAL!!!

At almost 150k, it uses no oil (does leak), pulls 3000# up mountains in Vermont, and may have another 100k in it.

Very comfortable and well handling (really). Not too big and at appx. 4000 # not to heavy. Total Pimp Daddy in the right colour combos. Search for a d'Elegance, buttoned pillowed leather, totally worth it.

Fuel economy. Not bad. Can get over 20 on the highway and very high teens in town. At today's prices, a full tune up (cap rotor wires plugs O2 sensor) will be paid off in month.

VERY VERY VERY CHEAP PARTS!!!

A rebuilt carburetor (sp) after 120,000 is worth the $400 installed. Do not try to rebuild, well beyond a shade tree mechanic. However, with crow feet wrenches and a pad of paper (and tape) to map the 10+ things into the carb, and easy 1 hour change.

This is a Cadillac Professional Vehicle, do not underestimate it.
