2000 Cadillac Catera review from North America
"Gorgeous, classy Caddy that still turns heads"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The seat heaters stopped working at 60k miles -
needs a new control module.
I just replaced the heater bypass valve - cost approx $350 at the dealer.
General comments?
I bought my 2000 Cadillac Catera in June of 2008 - have had it exactly a year now. It had 50k at time of purchase - paid $5995 for it - one owner car.
I have 80K miles on it now - and pleased to say it has been very reliable. I had read plenty of horror stories about the car - but it was a good deal and decided to chance it - worst case scenario I'd just buy another car.
So far it has been great - fun to drive - great A/C.
My main gripe is the cup-holder/parking brake relationship - use one or the other - not both.
Also the seat heaters stopped working in October - just as it got cold outside - just haven't bothered to them fixed.
I recently had the heater bypass valve replaced - was leaking coolant, and will need a new alternator soon - will have that tested today - other wise it has been reliable - and on par with the American made models I've previously owned.
I recently went car shopping with a friend of mine who was looking for a car - she was driving newer cars 2008+, but all the salesmen kept commenting and staring at my car - at one Ford dealership we came out and they were crowded around it. Still turns heads at 8 years old. For those that own one with many issues- you have my sympathy - I think I just got lucky - SO FAR... Just don't buy a 1999 Lincoln Continental... that's all I'll say.
