1998 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

Great bargain for a mid size SUV

Faults:

Electrical issues - 2 battery replacements, switch failures.

Squeak in rear due to location of brake cable; fixed several times, but keeps coming back.

Fuel system problems, started as gas pedal sticking due to varnish from exhaust gas recirc, ended up blowing board for fuel control, big $$.

General Comments:

The Blazer is very comfortable for a long haul machine.

Good maneuverability, but too top heavy to take corners fast.

1998 Chevrolet Blazer Tahoe 4.3 from North America

Summary:

Reliable, but far from perfect

Faults:

Radiator needs to be replaced.

Serious brake fluid leak.

Door handle broken twice.

Rear window handle broken twice.

A/C is gone. New compressor?

Ceiling liner sagged down.

Console box lock (after-market) broke.

Tape deck replaced.

General Comments:

Overall, the 4.3 engine has been extremely reliable. The transmission has held in there just fine. I have not had any major engine repairs (other than the radiator and brakes which need to be done). The problem with S-10 Blazers is in the mechanical things like door handles etc. The A/C was very cold while it lasted.

I still love the design of the S-10 Blazer as an SUV. It is small enough to easily parallel park, but there is a lot of cargo room when you fold the seat down.

The 4.3 V6 engine is still very powerful, and I have never had a problem towing trailers.

In its later years, the steering has gotten very loose on the Blazer, and it tends to bounce a lot. Not a smooth ride.

The new Blazers have a ridiculous huge spare tire INSIDE the cargo area which basically takes up all your cargo area.

1998 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

Rock solid value!

Faults:

Slight leak from the weather striping on the driver's front door by the A pillar, at highway speeds (60mph or so) when there's heavy rain.

General Comments:

Excellent off-road ability for a stock vehicle, handles well (have the sport suspension option), accelerates and brakes good.

OK gas mileage for the size, some road noise at higher speeds (mainly due to my current aggressive tires).
