1997 Chevrolet Blazer LT 4 Dr 4wd review from North America

"Fun and sporty"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Never, never, never purchase a Blazer at 75,000 miles; that is the part wear and tear period.

Water pump, and thermostat, with complete flush - 75,000.

Hood hinge springs -- 76,800.

Alternator and battery -- 79,000.

Intake manifold gasket -- 81,780.

Drive belt and idler pulley -- 95,000.

All the above covered under 25,000 warranty. Now I have to do the rest.

Ignition switch -- 103,000.

Heater core (Large pain in the ***) -- 115,000.

Idler and pitman arms -- 138,000.

Upper and lower ball-joints x 2 (time consuming) -- 141,000.

Brakes, front and rear -- 143,000.

Fuel pump -- 148,000.

Ignition coil -- 149,500.

General comments?

The Blazer is honestly a automotive technician's dream. It should NEVER be your daily driver, and it needs to be thoroughly cared for and maintained, or it will slowly get out of hand.

I have a black with black leather LT 4WD 4 door, with a sunroof and tinted windows. It's a pretty truck, and I have put dual exhaust and a push-bar on the front with driving lights. I use this vehicle mostly for pleasure after work, and as a pick-up for cargo transport and driving my dog around. I also use it in the winter for getting through the snow; the 4wd is EXCELLENT and has never failed me, and trust me, I have tested it to the best of its ability.

I would only recommend this vehicle to those who will take care of it and don't abuse it. It's amazing to see all the Blazer's on the road in terrible shape. If you can't afford to maintain it, don't buy it.
