1976 Chevrolet Blazer Cheyenne from North America - Comments

"Like a rock...really"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

When I purchased this truck it was in very poor condition, the engine transmission and transfer case had been rebuilt however.

I replaced the front end (tie rods, pitman arm etc)

I completely replaced the entire brake system, and relaced all of the sheet metal from the doors forward, I also replaced the rocker panels and floors.

General comments?

This truck is one of the most useful and dependable vehicles I have ever owned.

I can obtain any sheet metal part for it, so any body repairs are only limited by time.

It's 5.7 V8 is easy to work on. It has passed every e-check test... without a catalytic converter.

In 9 years of ownership I have NEVER gotten stuck. My truck has stock suspension, 31 inch tires. and a 3.08 posi gear set.

I think this is a very good entry. I have a 1976 4x4 K5 blazer myself. It has a new stock 350 engine. 31x10.50r15 BFG All-Terrain tires and I go four-wheeling a lot and I have never been stuck. Matter of fact this Friday (3/5/o4) I pulled a Ford Bronco out of the mud. He was lifted with huge tires and a 400 big block. I am all stock from suspension to tires to rims. I had no problem pulling him out and I was in about 2 foot of mud when I did it. I also have to replace 2 front fenders and doors because of rust, but nothing major. My stepfather gave it to me for Christmas in 2002. He had it since 1978. He and I both love it to death. I plan on never getting rid of it.

Hey-I have a 76' K-5 Blazer myself. well I have questions for you actually. I bought this Blazer for 1,000 bucks which it is in pretty good condition. except for some things needed to be updated. Like the dashboard, would you know of any way to find some dash boards for this particular Truck. I have looked various places such as ebay and what not, but I haven't had any luck. And also the back seat is missing, happen to know where I can find one. That's mostly my problems. Its in good shape for being 28 years old. And I know when you go 4x4 and then you get back on the paved road it wears away at the tires. Is there some certain tires that you need that doesn't do this so often? Anyway,

I would much appreciate if you could give me some clues to where I can get some of these items I am a new owner, but I've already started to love my girl so much. Anyway here is where you can reach me. Kribabie_1@yahoo.com.

I also have a K-5 Blazer, although mine is a '75. I bought in '77. It's proved to be a reliable and capable old beast with tremendous pulling power in stock configuration. Like most Blazers its age, I will soon have to replace the front door and fender sheet metal although this is only for cosmetic reasons. Parts for these trucks seem readily available and reasonably inexpensive.

For all you blazer lovers. I also have a great K5 with no complaints. I want to pass on a place where I get my parts. It is LMCTRUCK. COM I have purchased a few parts from them, it is at-least worth getting their catalog. I am not affiliated with them I just want to help other get their Blazers in top shape.

I have had 3 70's chevy pickups. Really tough drivetrains, but rust in the bodies to no end- that is why I want nothing to do with then anymore. People tell me- just replace the panels with new ones every few years- that's what I do... DA! You shouldn't have to do that...

With a little extra care you can avoid much of the rust issues involved with these 73-78? Chevy GMC panels. I realize it's a bit more labor intensive with those of you who 4X4 But make sure you get 100% of the mud out from under these things. Spend a few more dollars at the high pressure car wash and get all of it. Don't stop there. have on hand an old terry cloth shop towel and dry the spots that collect water inside the fenders. I have done this with half a dozen of these old beasts and have watched existing rust spots remain unchanged for over 7 years.

I have a 73 jimmy.. I love her to death.. its been well redone.. it has a 89 front clip.. cowl hood. 468 bbc. 3/4 ton drive liine and 35 swampers.. this truck will go any where.. I love to drive it (when I can afford it) I always get into trouble with it though.. little rice rockets think there faster...NOT!! I will beat just about anyone off the line, but I can only go about 65 top with the gears I got.. I would never get rid of this truck.. ill probley redo it a couple more times before I die..
