"Great overall utility vehicle"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

100 miles: Just a week after purchasing the car the transmission had problems where it wasn't shifting properly. I took it to the dealer and they were able to fix it within a couple of hours.

15,000 miles: Annoying problem with the weather stripping that was attached to the small side triangle window. The front drivers door was supposed to close on top of the stripping. Instead, whenever you would close the drivers door the weather stripping would go outside of the door. So it made it hard to open or close the door because you had to bend the stripping out of the way first. It took five trys taking it to the dealership before it was fixed properly. They kept replacing the little window, but the same problem kept happening. I am not sure what they did the last time, but the problem finally was fixed.

30,000 miles: Drivers seat 'Lean back' lever broke clean off. I never have anyone in the back seat so it was used maybe 5 times at this point. It looks like there were bubbles in the cast which may have cause it to be weaker than designed. My husband put a bolt through it and screwed it back on. Been fine since.

40,000 miles: Passenger side 'Lean Back' lever broke, see above comments.

50,000 miles: Noticed it had a delayed shift into second. I left the truck with the dealer and he called me and said they will need to replace a small spring in the middle of the transmission. He said it was a lot of work and that it would cost me $400. An hour later he calls and says my truck is done. Nothing like getting paid $400 an hour to put in a $2 spring.

60,000 miles: Replaced tires. They had more tread on them, but one blew on the expressway while going 70mph and I get scared and had them all replaced. It turns out the reason it blew was because I didn't have enough air in it. I checked the rest of the tires right after that and the other front one only had 16psi in it. Lesson learned.

70,000 miles: Was having problems were grinding noises were coming from the passenger front tire. Took it to the dealer and they said I needed to replace the front bearing. He said the part was more expensive because of the ABS. At the same time he said I needed to have the main belt and tensioner replaced. So the cost came to around $800. I had asked for the parts back and the belt looked okay to me, couldn't tell what a bad tensioner looks like, and the hub that they gave me back didn't look like there was any ABS module stuck to it. So bottom line, I am not sure about the cost of this fix and whether or not the tensioner and belt really needed to be replaced.

80,000 miles: Replaced battery.

100,000 miles: Around and my husband replaced it pretty easily and the part wasn't that expensive.

100,000 miles: Replaced front speakers, which had started to have a plastic grocery bag sounding static to them.

105,000 miles: The windshield wipers started to have problems. They would just stop intermittently. I think there is a problem with one of the welds by on the wiper motor. My husband has managed to rig it to keep it working most of the time. Eventually I will fork out the $70 to get a new motor.

105,000 miles: Replaced spark plugs and wires. My husband said that the old ones looked fine when he took them off.

115,000 miles: The truck died while driving, it just wouldn't go then eventually stalled. Turned out to be the fuel pump. I have a brother in law who is a mechanic and recently purchased an auto shop so he came over and my husband and him fixed it for me. This didn't look like an easy job and the part was really expensive (around $310). He said that if he did it at the shop it would have cost around $800. They had to drop the gas tank (it didn't help that I had just filled the tank). It's quite awkward, but if you have a couple of hydraulic jacks it makes it easier.

115,000 miles: Replaced fuel filter because the truck lost it's pick-up. Should have replaced it when replacing the fuel pump, but didn't think of it then. $7-$12 part.

115,000 miles: Interior lights starting flickering while driving. At night, it looked like someone was taking flash pictures in my truck. It turned out to be the glass part of the tailgate had loosened and as I was driving over bumps it was slightly opening and closing just enough to turn the lights on and off. It was making a lot of rattling noises, but I just thought it was because the truck was getting older.

General comments?

I love my truck and I hope it never dies. Overall I think it has been pretty good. It runs well and is still pretty tight, no rattles. It has decent pick-up and a great turning radius. I drive 70 highway miles per day and fill it up about 1.5 times a week. I would definitely buy another Blazer, but not the ZR2 or any other two door model. It is virtually impossible to get in and out of the rear seats, so the back seat is rarely used.
