This is the only vehicle I feel comfortable with high miles to drive just about anywhere. It gets normal tune ups has upgraded K&N air filter, as well as flow master single exhaust. This truck has towed a loaded car trailer almost everyday since I have owned it. It doesn't burn a drop of oil. I use only Castrol drive hard 10-40 in winter and 20-50 in summer. I have the transmission serviced every 15000 miles. It just goes to show what normal maintenance does for a vehicle.I'm a true believer in changing the oil every 3000 miles and sometimes sooner depending on how hard I drive it. Also tire presure is a big concern. I made it 90,000 miles with PEPBOYS futura brand dakota series tires. It has the original engine and transmission.
I agree, the k5's of this era are unbeatable. I have a 92 as well and plan to buy a second one for my wife. I paid $700 for mine, and bought tires for $150, then sold the tires that it came with for $200. So I'm into my truck for $650 total now.
I just drove 6000KMS in it, and it didn't give me one sign of anything being wrong. I am a mechanic and brought my tools with me, but didn't have to use a single wrench, nothing at all.
The gas was being sipped nicely, and a tank lasted for 1/2 a day or more of straight driving. I averaged about 15-18MPG on the trip. As long as I keep the revs down, it was easy on gas and I'm totally impressed.
I'm a Chevrolet fan and remain to be almost 18 years later. The fullsize Chevys are so much better than the midsize ones are, they are good too, but they don't compare.
My favorite vehicle EVER... is a fullsize Blazer... no Porsche, no Corvette, nothing even compares. I have the best, most useful, all around perfect vehicle I could ever have for ME... the Chevrolet K5 Blazer... Others can keep the cars they have, I'm blessed with what I have.
