2000 Chevrolet Blazer LT review from United Arab Emirates

"A good package overall, but becoming a bit dated"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rear window washer piping leaking from new, repaired by vendor under warranty after arguments in the service reception!

Driver side electric window failed at 10,000 KM. Dealer replaced window motor cost: $300.

Air conditioning failed at 14,000 KM. Dealer replaced the compressor cost: $520.

Lost one of the remote door lock keys, first the dealer claimed he couldn't get a replacement. 3 months later they decided they could get one from the USA. I took 22 days to arrive and then it took two days for the dealer to realize it was faulty and could not be programmed to work.

The windshield broke by a rock however it took the dealer 17 days to have a replacement shipped from the USA and 3 days to fit.

Car started overheating at 22,500 KM. Thermostat changed by dealer cost $150.

At 24000 KM service dealer claimed the car needed new brake pads all round. Hung onto the car for 12 days claiming the parts were not available in country. Took the car back and found the pads were still good. I checked with the GMC dealer who had the pads on the shelf at half the price of Chevrolet. (Same as GMC Jimmy)

Overall Chevrolet's service has been appaling and I now use the GMC dealer who proves to be much more helpful.

General comments?

The Blazer drives pretty well on the highway, not too much noise and a comfortable partner on long trips.

The engine has plenty of power for the size of the car with good acceleration and ample top speed.

Off the road I have used my Blazer in the desert around the UAE without any trouble negotiating the high dunes. It's a bit lacking on ground clearance and approach angles. However it is amply protected underneath with long skid plates that act as "sand surfers" when cresting ridges.
