"Great, but cost of gas is nuts"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Needed a tuneup on the carb every 2 years or so.

When I got it the original engine was replaced the year before with a 454 turbo.

Have had to replace shocks, and rear leaf springs (broke when hitting a rock)

The battries was always a problem until I replaced then with much higher cold cranking amp ones)

Problem with transfer case, if moving less than 5km/h and trying to shift from 4h/4l or vise-versa would often get the transfer case stuck in neutral.

Horrendous gas mileage. 3-4mpg.

General comments?

Great as a off road truck in the warmer months and a plow truck in the winter. I have it setup with 2 alternators and a hydraulic pump for the plow (had to remove the ac to do this.

Also have a 4 inch body lift, and 8 inch suspension lift.

Winter tires are 245/75/R16 Summer tires are 315/75/r16

3 to 4 mpg? Good God in Heaven, man! That's what? 120 miles per 30 gallon fill up? At $3.00 per gallon for regular? Oh, buddy. I feel for you. I really do.

You just need a general tuneup.

New plugs, wires, oil change (why not lol), auto tranny fluid change, fuel filter change, oil filter change, align tire... blah blah blah...

But I don't think it helps that it's a 79 and prolly has a 3 speed auto + big engine + lift + big tires. However I'd predict around 7+ mpg after all that, maybe more.
