1999 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28 review from North America

The front door speaker blew up.

The trim panel in the back seat came loose.

Nothing major has gone wrong.

It's a 99 Z-28 Camaro. For all of you who don't know, it has the Corvette motor in it, the 350 C.I., all aluminum, L-S1 V-8. The motor is factory rated at 305 H.P., 330 lb-ft of torque. I think this is figure is low, to keep insurance companies from going crazy, just like in the muscle car days of the 1960's.

The torque and sheer speed is simply amazing. It is the modern hot rod. Stomp the gas from a standstill, and hold on. It will give you whiplash. 60 is gone in 5.4 seconds, the quarter in 13.4 @110 MPH. Top speed is a 160. This car isn't like a Honda, all the torque is available at a low RPM. With all this torque, traction becomes a problem, but layin rubber is always fun!:)

The car isn't all about straight line speed, it also handles extremely well. It has a tight suspension, and the handling can keep up with the speeds you can attain.

I'd say its the best sports car value out there. You can get a really nice car for under $15,000 and smoke everything else on the road.

The looks are killer. This car is low, wide, and very distinctive. It also has T-tops, something you won't find on any other car. Mine is dark blue, which looks purple in certain lights. The chrome wheels also make it stand out. You won't mistake the Camaro for anything else on the road.

Now for the bad parts.

Beware: A Camaro is not very practical :(

Gas mileage isn't bad, but it isn't good either. I get 18 city/22 highway. But the real dissapointment is the interior. For being a realtively large car, the back hatch is small. The back seat is worse, nobody wants to ride with you if they have to crawl back there. My Camaro has leather, and all the power goodies, and a decent stereo. But the quality of all the plastic bits is way off. They all look cheap and a few of them occasionally rattle, but nothing too annoying. The ride is stiff, but you'd expect that in a sports car.

For the 7000 miles I've driven my Camaro, its always ran awesome, never any problems.
