1979 Chevrolet Camaro review from North America
"Camaro, a true Classic car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The main things that have gone wrong are just the usual Camaro of this eras problems. Broken door handles, (inner and outer) have plagued me (and my gf who has to roll down the window to close the door)
Seats have some holes in them, body is rusting a little bit in certain places.
Weatherstripping is getting old and dried out, get some water leakage during rainy days.
Had a few typical engine problems such as thermostat sticking, rebuilt the Carburetor and starter etc... all minor details.
General comments?
This Camaro is a good one to own. Parts are pretty universal (can rob parts off of my dads truck which is an 1981 chevy scottsdale.) Most parts are very inexpensive however some specialty parts such as weatherstripping, are costing a fortune and are terriby hard to find.
This car is very easy to make into a drag car even the it is a Uni-body style (not full frame, but home made frame connectors are easy to make :_) Also if you are planning to make a drag car note that this car is pretty heavy (mine is 3400 pounds)
This car is a head turner and gets a lot of attention, though I find the most attention I get is from young guys who love the look of the car (i guess it reminds them of a hot wheels car or something lol)
