1993 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 (Police Package) from North America - Comments

"A high performance car that keeps a good impression!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The spotlight has recently suffered from a bad ground that needs repaired.

The limited-slip differential has begun to clunk and whine a little.

General comments?

Chevrolet made a winner back in 1993 with the 9C1 police package, police cars. I recently aquired min e a few months ago as my first car (tear) as a christmas present. It was quite a suprise I can say. It was a retired Oregon State Police car that had been very well taken care of. These Caprices are one of the quickest, tire smoking full size cars out there. It is the defintion of an American car being huge in most aspects, the body is huge, the motor a powerful gas guzzling V-8, and rear-wheel drive without traction control... lol Can burn out for a block in the sun and mile in the rain. Very reliable and fun, plus sounds extremely nice as it will rumble with the Flowmaster I installed. Not to mention being stared at everywhere you go. Always adds to the fun!

I have a similar 1992 Caprice 9C1 police surplus vehicle. If you can burn out with a limited-slip differential for more than a few feet, there is something really wrong with that rear end. My car may chirp a tire on a wet turn with power applied, but from a stop it squats and launches at 3x the quickness of econobox cars. It may have something to do with 3.42 gears that also get me 12-16 mpg all-around. A great car that is worth fixing and keeping.
