1992 Chevrolet Caprice Stationwagon review from North America
"Excellent value for Price and comfort, compromise on gas expense"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Blower motor died soon after I purchased it. That was fixed easily with a new motor for around $30 with a lifetime warranty and a friend put it in for me.
Radiator was leaking too badly and I had to fill her up with water every ride so I put in a new thermostat and radiator and that cost all up including installation about $200.
The major cost was the front wheel bearings making the car go really toward the right side at low speeds and at speeds above 50mph, it would make a terrible dragging noise and the car drove like it had a flat. New bearings and installation cost me $479.
Stalls sometimes when engine is still cold. This can be overcome by idling the car for 1-2 minutes, no need to rev up the engine or such.
General comments?
After all that I did to fix it, I figured it was good for a bit of a ride. I drove this tank from the Midwest to L. A (2400 miles in 4 days) and had no problems. 4 days coz I was in no hurry and wanted to rest as well. I didn't calculate the mileage, but it was beautiful considering how many miles I did.
The drive between Utah and California was really treacherous so say the least. Picture this; a curvy road of over 10 degrees decline, loads of rain and my station wagon loaded down with my treasures. On that part, I handled satisfactorily (it was really loaded down with my garbage) andI gave it a7 out of 10. Although Jeeps and other cars sped past me, they were lighter and front wheel drive.
Overall, I am quite happy and oil and filter job it every 3000 miles religiously. I also change the distributor cap, cables and spark plugs every 10,000 miles. Few cars take off like this dinosaur!
