1993 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 review from North America
"A cheap, Faster, Funner substitute to Import cars!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
When I got the car with 571000 it needed brakes, and a few minor things to pass an emissions test. It blew the water pump gaskets twice within 2 weeks due to a bad thermostat (realized the second time it happened), always has bald tires (lol)
General comments?
I have a 1993 9C1 it has the 5.7 roller cam motor with a 3.43 limited slip.
Yes I think they are one of the funnest cars you can buy for under $5000.
They will leave 2, yes 2 black strips of burnt rubber on the pavement for about 75 feet and yes they will out accelerate almost all factory built front wheel drives. Mine has 574000 kilometers or 357000 miles on it I just replaced the engine for no reason other than I love horse power. The car stock with that many miles on the original engine would run the quarter mile in 16.1 seconds at 84 miles per hour, and 60 feet comes in a neck snapping 2.00 seconds smoking the tires to about one third of the track.
On the high way you need one hell of a car to stay with the 9c1 caprice. (that was what they were built to do)
The car kinda fades at 80 miles per hour, but after it hits its beloved 4000 rpm the speedometer starts to roll the numbers up on the digital display. My car started its life as a highway patrol car in Ontario then became a taxi for the most of its life, now I have it and drive the living crap out of it and the bigest problems I have had was flat or royally bald tires, lol, sure they are not the prettiest car, but never disrespect them or you may get whooped by one at a stop light one day. And for all the hatters out there yes you can make them nice. Look at the Impala SS it is the same car minus the leather, fancy paint, 17 inch rims, and a grille. Impala was never made in 1993 but te 9c1 is identical chase wise, My dad has a 1995 9c1 and the only difference we have found is the 1994 to 1996 is acommodated with rear disk brakes and an LT1 engine instead of the L98 based version that comes in the 1991-1993 caprice.
I will never sell mine, it was my official first car and I love it. it will only get better from now on!!!, It now runs in the mid 15's and I have many parts on order to make it faster. My plan is mid 13's and I think it won't be hard to get it there.
I will always enjoy caprice's as one of the last real car's (rear drive) with real balls!
